Stafford is on Farm Road 1092 and the boundary between
Fort Bend and Harris counties, just north of the
junction of U.S. highways 90A and 59. The population of
Stafford is approximately 8397. The approximate number
of families is 3211.In 1830 William Stafford
installed a cane mill and opened a horse-powered cotton
gin, reported to have been the first in Stephen F.
Austin's colony.
Antonio López de Santa Anna and
a detachment of his army halted at Stafford's plantation
on April 15, 1836, during the march to Harrisburg.
Missouri
City is on U.S. Highway 90A and State Highway 6, twenty
miles southwest of downtown Houston in northeast Fort
Bend and southwest Harris counties. The
population of Missouri City is approximately 36,176. The
approximate number of families is 12,346.
In
1890 R. M. Cash and L. E. Luckle, two Houston real
estate investors, bought four square miles of land
southwest of Houston. They advertised in St. Louis,
Missouri, and surrounding areas and referred to the
property as a "land of genial sunshine and eternal
summer." To tie his promotion into the advertising
by Cash and Luckle and help sales in the St. Louis area,
he called the new town Missouri City. In 1919 oil
was discovered in nearby Blue Ridge. Soon afterward a
salt mine opened there, and in 1925 natural gas was
discovered. In 1926, Missouri City became the first town
in the county to make use of natural gas.
