Tortoise picture. |
| Description |
It is one of the three largest tortoises,
growing to 2 to 2 1/2 feet in length, and often
weighing 100 to 200 pounds when full grown. |
| Climate |
They should be kept at a temperature of 85F-100F
during the day, with temperatures dropping to 75F
or so at night. |
| Habitat |
Given the sizes that the sulcata will grow to,
they most often need to be kept outside. Young
ones and hatchlings should normally be kept
indoors. |
| Feeding |
Some Sulcata owners have reported good results
feeding a diet of about 80-90% grass, plants and
dark, leafy greens, with the balance made up of
fresh vegetables, and ocassional small ammounts of
fruit. |
| Notes |
If you are considering getting one, make sure
you are aware of the space requirements. For many
people, a smaller tortoise or turtle is a more
practical alternative. |
