Varanus exanthema |
| Pet Guide |
Detailed
Savannah Monitor pet guide. |
| Description |
The savannah monitor is brown in color, with
white spots on it's back. They normally grow to
three feet in length. |
| Climate |
Savannah monitors are native to Africa, and need
a warm habitat. Temperatures should be in the
85-95F rnage during the day, slightly cooler
(70-80) at nights. |
| Habitat |
A very secluded habitat is required. If they are
in a glass terrarium, cover three sides with
cloth, paper or cardboard otherwise they will
become stressed. Provide at least two hiding
spots: one at the warm side, and one at the cooler
side of their habitat. Newspaper or brown wrapping
paper makes a good substrate, do not use sand or
fine gravel. |
| Feeding |
They will eat crickets or other insects when
young. As they grow, the will take prekilled mice.
Provide water in a shallow bowl, and change it
regularly. |
| Notes |
These lizards are quite timid, but can become
comfortable being handled. They are quite
intelligent, so make sure their cage is escape
proof. |
