| Description |
The Nile Monitor is one of the larger monitors -
they often reach seven feet in length. They are
brown in color, ranging from a light gray-brown to
dark brown. They have large, darker spots and some
small white-yellow spots. |
| Climate |
The Nile Monitor expects temperatures in the
85-95F range. As with most lizards, heat should be
provided by basking lamps, and under-cage heaters. |
| Habitat |
This lizard almost requires a room of it's own!
The enclosure should be at least fifteen feet in
length, and tall enough (6+ feet) so that it can
climb. These lizards like to swim, so a large
water pool is recommended. Supply strong branches
for climbing and backing, and a good sized hiding
area. |
| Feeding |
They will eat mice, rats and other rodents. They
may also learn to eat hard boiled eggs, well
cooked chicken as well as commercial reptile diet
or even cat food. |

Given the size they can grow to, their strength,
strong claws and sometimes aggressive nature,
these are not recommended for beginners. Raising a
Nile Monitor is a serious commitment or time,
