Description:
There are two differant kinds of ferrets. The
Black-footed Ferret and the European Domestic Ferret.
The two different breeds are similar in general size but
Black-footed Ferrets are different in appearance from
their domestic cousins. Their heads are much broader and
their faces are more blunt and less pointed than
domestic ferrets. Their eyes and ears are larger too.
Their legs and feet are black or dark brown, giving them
the name black-footed. The top of their heads and
foreheads are always dark, never white. This feature is
unique to Black-footed Ferrets. The Domestic Ferret has
large front feet that help it in digging. The tail on
the Domestic Ferret is wider at the base and tapers off
towards the tip. Domestic ferrets may vary in their
coloring from brown, black or sometimes white.
Diet:
Ferrets are carnivorous they feed mainly on
rabbits or ground nesting birds. You can buy proper dry
ferret food at any pet store. If that is not available
in your area they will also eat kitten food.
Size:
Ferrets grow to 48 - 56 cm long, this is
including their tail.
Weight:
Ferrets usually weigh as much as 1.5 to 2.5 pounds when
full-grown.
